Science is where students lose marks they shouldn't: a required practical they half-remember, a six-mark question answered without the key terms, a calculation dropped for one missing unit. Our one-to-one science tutoring starts with a diagnostic test to find exactly where those marks are going, then works on the weakest topics first, matched to your child's exam board.

We teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics from KS3 to A-level, including GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy) and the separate sciences at Foundation and Higher tier. Lessons are online anywhere in the world, or in person in High Wycombe, Marlow, Beaconsfield, Amersham and surrounding areas.

How science lessons work

  1. Free consultation. A 15-minute call to find out the exam board, the target grade and which topics are causing trouble.
  2. Diagnostic test. A short test across the course shows exactly where marks are being lost before the first lesson.
  3. Lessons. We work on the weakest topics first, with exam-style questions and the real mark schemes, so your child learns what examiners are looking for.
  4. Progress tracking. Notes after every lesson and a re-test every few weeks, so you can see what's improved.

Required practicals and exam technique

Every GCSE and A-level science specification includes required practicals, and questions on them appear in the exams every year. Students often understand the experiment but lose marks on the method, the variables or the evaluation. We go through each practical on your child's specification and practise the questions that go with it.

We also teach the technique behind the longer answers: how to structure a six-mark question, which key terms earn marks, and how to show working in calculations so method marks aren't lost.

What students and parents say

“Charlie is very supportive and has really boosted my confidence in Biology. He teaches in a way that works really well for me, using recall from previous lessons in each session, which I find really useful for remembering information. He is really patient and explains things clearly, making difficult topics much easier to understand. Would highly recommend!”
A-level Biology student
“Charlie is without a doubt an amazing tutor! He goes above and beyond to make sure my son understands. The attention to detail Charlie shows during lessons is impeccable and I highly recommend him as a tutor.”

Frequently asked questions

Which science exam boards do you cover?

All of them, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC/Eduqas. Tell us the board at the free consultation, and every lesson is planned around that specification, including its required practicals and paper formats.

How are online science lessons structured?

Lessons run one-to-one on Google Meet. Before the first lesson your child sits a short diagnostic test, so we start on the topics they need most. Each lesson works through the weakest areas first, using exam-style questions and mark schemes. Your child will need a computer, plus a pen and paper.

Do you cover both Combined and Triple Science?

Yes. We teach both GCSE routes, Combined Science (Trilogy) and separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics, at both Foundation and Higher tier.

Do you offer in-person science tutoring?

Yes. Charlie teaches in person in High Wycombe, Marlow, Beaconsfield, Amersham and surrounding areas, covering KS3 science and GCSE and A-level Biology. Stephen teaches GCSE and A-level Physics and Chemistry online. Every subject is available online anywhere in the world.

Do you help with required practicals?

Yes. Required practicals come up in exams every year, and students often lose easy marks on method, variables and evaluation. We go through each practical on your child's specification and practise the exam questions that go with them.

My child's mocks went badly. Is it too late?

The diagnostic test shows exactly where marks are being lost, so lessons go straight to the topics and question types that will make the biggest difference. The earlier you start before the real exams, the more ground we can cover.

Who will teach my child?

It depends on the subject. Charlie (BSc Neuroscience, University of Nottingham, now doing an MRes in Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL) teaches Biology and KS3 science. Stephen (MSci Physics, University of Nottingham, now doing a PhD at the University of Leicester) teaches Physics and Chemistry. We'll match your child at the free consultation.

How is Neuron Tuition different from online tutoring platforms and agencies?

You deal directly with your child's tutor from the first conversation, not a booking system or account manager. Every student starts with a diagnostic test, so lessons target the gaps from the first session, and you get notes after every lesson plus regular re-tests to show progress. Your child keeps the same tutor throughout, matched to their subject and exam board. And as well as online lessons worldwide, Charlie teaches in person in High Wycombe, Marlow, Beaconsfield, Amersham and surrounding areas.

Is my child safe with you?

Yes. All our tutors hold enhanced DBS checks. For in-person lessons, a parent or carer needs to be at home, and online lessons run on Google Meet, where you're welcome to sit in. We keep parents copied into messages with students under 16.
